Ann Curry gives a tearful goodbye on the Today Show (VIDEO)

Written by +

Ann Curry was all tears and excuses when she announced that she would no longer be the co-host of the Today show. She explained that she tried her best but ‘couldn’t carry the ball to the finish line.’

She just took this lead anchor role more than a year ago but couldn’t bring the ratings. She said that this wasn’t what she expected but she appreciated the viewers support over the last 15 years.

She said, “This is not easy to say, but today’s going to be my last morning as regular co-host of Today. To all of you who watch because Matt and I — and everyone who sits on this couch — we often call ourselves a family, but YOU are the real Today show family. You are why I have ventured into dangerous places and interviewed dictators and jumped out of planes and off of bridges and climbed mountains and landed in the South Pole and convinced the Dalai Lama to come live in our studio. I have loved you and I have wanted to give you the world, and I still do.”

Ann will stay with the Peacock Network as a correspondent dealing with all the hard news stories. She said that she will travel all over the world and have a ‘fancy new title’.

Now all these names are up in the air about who will be her replacement… Who would you like to sit beside Matt Lauer?

Ann is a class act…Matt Lauer is not. His head has gotten way too big for his britches. I stopped watching the Today Show during the first Obama election campaign as Matt and NBC couldn’t report pure journalism if his life depended on it. There was a time I wouldn’t miss the show. I have no respect for Matt Lauer or NBC for 5 years now due to your biased journalisist tactics. So sorry for Ann, though, as I said, she is a class act!
