Weekend Box Office — Ice Age #4 is #1!

Written by +

Last weekend’s top 3 movies slid down a spot, making room for Ice Age: Continental Drift to glide into the top spot of the weekend.

1-  Ice Age: Continental Drift opened at No.1 with $46 million; up versus the franchise’s prior installment Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs ($46 million on its opening weekend—July ’09). However, Ice Age #4 was still several continents shy of matching the top franchise opening of $68 million banked by Ice Age: The Meltdown (the 2nd  in the series). ‘Continental Drift’ also under-delivered recent summer kiddie movie debuts—Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted ($60 million) and Brave ($67 million).

2-  The Amazing Spider-Man may have dropped to second place this weekend, but the $35 million the superhero snatched-up pushed its two-week run over the $200 million mark.

3-  Ted the trash talking teddy bear continued to trail Spidey, bringing in another whopping $22 million ($159 million 3-week total).

4-  Brave braved the box office competition again, adding $11 million in its 4th weekend; bringing Pixar’s total earnings just shy of the $200 mill-mark ($196 million 4-week total). Ohhh so close!

5-  Magic Mike the highest paid strippers in the biz ‘poled’ in $9 million this weekend; sweating their way past Savages who last week the boys were one spot behind.  ($92 million 3-week total).
