George Jefferson has died

Sherman Hemsley, the actor who made the character George Jefferson famous in The Jeffersons, has died, according to TMZ.

George Sherman died at his home in El Paso, Texas. He was 74.

Sherman’s hilarious performances in All in the Family made him a household name and got him a spin-off show—The Jeffersons—a mega TV hit, which ran for 11 seasons. He, of course, also starred in the TV show, Amen, which lasted for 5 seasons before being cancelled…amen.

One thing you may not know about George Sherman, is that he was also a professional singer and even released the single in 1989, ‘Ain’t that A Kick in the Head.’

Hemsley had no wife and no kids.
It’s unclear how he died.
