Weekend Box Office: Gold=Batman; Silver=Ice Age; Bronze=The Watch

Written by +

The Dark Knight Rises was awarded the Box Office Gold Medal for the 2nd weekend in a row. However, TDKR‘s two-week total ($289) is down versus The Dark Knight‘s first two weeks ($313 million). Two new movies debuted this weekend — The Watch and Step Up Revolution — both pulled in non-revoltionary numbers.

1-  The Dark Knight Rises earned another $64 million; bringing the film’s total earnings up to $289 million, just shy of the $300 million mark.

2-  Ice Age: Continental Drift napped $13.3 million ($115 million during its 3-week total).

3-  The Watch* had a cast full of big shots, which brought its bank roll up to $70+ million to make and market; meaning the $13 million it brought in during its debut weekend isn’t exactly good news. FOX, no doubt, will be watching The Watch‘s box office numbers closely… as the weeks continue.

4-  Step Up Revolution* was a weak revolution. The 4th installment from the dance film factory made $11.8 million; well behind the $15 million (Step Up 3-D), $18 million (Step Up 2 the Streets) and $20 million (Step Up) debuts of its predecessors.

5 – Ted the silly talking teddy bear, was able to cling on to the Box Office Top 5 (adding $7.4 million; $194 million 5-week total); meanwhile, The Amazing Spider-Man—with all his special abilities—somehow slipped from the Top 5 (#6: $6.8 million; $242 4-week total).
