MTV Video Music Awards Nods are in! Ex-Boyfriends Beware…
Written by Russ Francis+

The nominations for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards were just announced and they probably hit a sore spot for a few exes.
Rihanna and Drake raked in the most nominations for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards—they each got five—this is something new for Chris Brown to get jealous about, especially since he only got two. Plus, RiRi actually has not one, but TWO chances to win the night’s Gold Medal “Video of the Year,” because she’s nominated for her own—We Found Love and for the duet with Drizzy—Take Care. In the past few weeks, both men are said to have boarded Rihanna’s yacht in the Mediterranean, just days apart… Things could get interesting at the LIVE show on September 6 (8pm EST).
Another sore loser may be Russell Brand. Let us explain! Sure, it makes sense that Mr. Brand X got zero nods since he’s not even a musician (although he looks like one); the part he may be sore over is Part of Me Katy Perry‘s ”Video of the Year” nod for Wide Awake. It’s gotta be a bitter pill to swallow, if your ex-wife wins MTV’s top honor for a song that basically says: What on EARTH was I thinking by marrying YOU!? (Katy got 4 nods total.)
Beyoncé, Coldplay, Frank Ocean, M.I.A. and the Throne all scored three nods apiece.
The Best New Artist race includes: Fun‘s We Are Young (Go Fun!), Carly Rae Jepsen Call Me Maybe, Frank Ocean‘s Swim Good, One Direction‘s What Makes You Beautiful and Wanted‘s Glad You Came.
Unique from other award shows, the MTV Video Music Awards are chosen by the fans. Starting TODAY July 31 through AUGUST 24 (6pm ET). Cast your vote at vma.mtv.com. You can also vote via text for “Best New Artist” by sending “BNA” to “22444″ or by visiting MTV’s official Facebook page; voting for Best New Artist will continue throughout the show.
