Russell Brand is “honored” to be sentenced to community service

Sure, it beats jail time, but that’s not why Russell Brand feels “honored” to be sentenced to community service, for throwing a photog’s iPhone through a window in New Orleans back in March.

Russell says that the 20 hours he’s being ordered to complete is not a punishment as it gives him a chance to help people in need. He said, “We are our community. Service is an honour. I’ll be happy to do it.”

We love Russell’s positive spin, but we’d suggest he keep his enthusiasm on the D.L. Especially, since the funny guy later admitted that he doesn’t even know what his community service will involve. He said, “What will I be doing? I don’t know. Tidying up or something probably.”

Russell who’s seen here attending a fundraiser for “Friendly House,” an L.A. drug and alcohol recovery group, already does a lot of regular service work and wonders if some of that “can be applied to his sentence.” That’s doubtful. His new service gig is probably not going to be as fun as making a celebrity appearance and a hefty donation at a chicken dinner gala. Has Russell seen pictures of Chris Brown’s community service? Yes, he IS ‘tidying’ up…the side of the freeway!

Russell is no court system virgin (or any other kind of virgin). He has an impressive wrap sheet from his ‘using days,’ but what’s even more impressive is that he’s been able to rack-up a few new incidents, stark-raving-sober. In 2010, Russell was accused of attacking a photographer at LAX and now in 2012, there’s a new photog assault; well not to him, but to his precious iPhone.
