Nicki Minaj is joining American Idol.. and it could start a war!

UPDATE (12:30pm)- It’s being reported that Nicki Minja is the newest addition to American Idol! According to Us Weekly, Nicki will officially be joining Mariah Carey on the Idol judging panel. Two sources confirmed to them saying, ”I’m not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening.”

The big-no one really cares about question is who is joining Mariah Carey on American Idol.

It shouldn’t be a big surprise that they are after Nicki Minaj. Remember last year she told Jennifer Lopez to scooch over and make room for her, so she should have been the first big name they dialed up to take over as the new and improved judges. But there is a chance that a war could break out if they brought her on. Not with anyone in particular on the show but between Pepsi and Coke. Nicki has a big endorsement deal with Pepsi but Idol is partnered up with Coke and has been since the first season. Coke gives Idol more than $26mil a year to sponsor their show.

So obviously, the two companies would have a problem if Nicki came on board. Coke wouldn’t be fond of having the face of Pepsi on the show and Pepsi wouldn’t want her drinking out of a coke cup… The battle of the voices all of a sudden turned into the battle of the soda brands.

Idol is still working on the perfect judging panel though. Ideally, they want a four judging panel with Mariah, Nicki, a country star (rumored to be Brad Paisley) and a Latin artist (reportedly Enrique Iglesias).
