Katy Perry dumps American Idol’s $20 million offer—take that John Mayer!

Trying to fill the American Idol judges’ panel is like playing a game of musical chairs, only no one wants to land on an empty chair…either that or Mariah Carey, who already has a seat, knocks it out from under them (cough…Nicki Minaj).

According to multiple media outlets, Katy Perry was offered $20 million to fill one of the two open seats on Idol‘s judging panel. That’s $2 million MORE than Mariah Carey is getting! But, apparently Katy Perry is NOT a fan of spending an entire TV season wondering when Mariah will sink her crazy cougar claws into her.

That means, Mariah Carey continues her reign as the highest paid TV judge in the genre, which surely she is loving every minute of.

It’s not shocking that Katy Perry is passing on the gig—what IS shocking, of course, is that she’s passing on $20 million!! But what is even MORE shocking is that John Mayer dumped Katy Perry and not the other way around…

The fact is, Katy talked about joining Idol with The Hollywood Reporter in July, saying, “People have reached out to me about the possibility of being involved, and it’s not right for me yet.”

Yeah, because her career is still going GREAT…once it’s in the toilet…that’s when the time seems to be right. Is being able to walk away from $20 million (because ‘it doesn’t feel right’) the sweetest revenge on Mr. Man (rhymes with s’more)?
