DJANGO UNCHAINED—ring in the holidays with gratuitous violence—opens Christmas Day (TRAILER)
Written by Russ Francis+
Quentin Tarantino’s latest flick is set in the South two years before the Civil War. Django Unchained stars Jamie Foxx as ‘Django,’ which he slyly explains is pronounced with a silent ‘D.’
Django is a slave whose brutal past with his former owners lands him face-to-face with bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz AKA Christoph Waltz, who is apparently Quentin T’s go-to-guy for key white supremacist roles — he was after the Jews in “Glorious Bastards” and now the slaves in “Django.”
However, this time Christoph’s character gets to team up with the other side. He and bad a$$ Django wind up going after the South’s most wanted criminals together. The only reason Jaime Foxx plays along is to rescue the beautiful Kerry Washington, who plays his wife Broomhilda; he lost her to the slave trade long ago.
Django and Schultz’s search ultimately lands them in “Candyland,” which contrary to the board game is not all gum drops and lollipops, its an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. The proprietor is owned by Calvin Candie AKA Leonardo DiCaprio and this is, obviously, the part where Quentin Tarantino’s signature style seriously spreads its wings…especially after arousing suspicion of Candie’s trusted house slave Stephen AKA Samuel L. Jackson…
Being the holly jolly holiday movie— which it definitely is NOT—Djano Unchained hits theaters Christmas Day.
