Weekend Box Office: “Cloud Atlas” needs a GPS
Written by Russ Francis+
Looks like Cloud Atlas may need a GPS or Siri to help it find the Box Office. The film was said to cost $100 million…so a $9.4 million debut and a third place finish is probably NOT good news…actually it is terrible terrible, terrible TERRIBLE news. Unless things pick up over the next few weeks, the big wigs behind Cloud Atlas best prepare themselves for reincarnated as production assistants; like within THIS lifetime.
One film; however, DID find its way to No. 1 — Argo. It only took Ben Affleck and his crew three weeks to make it there, but it is after all a suspense thriller…so what did you expect? Also, Argo didn’t have the added pressure of an INSANE budget like Cloud Atlas, so they were cool chilling at No. 2 for their first two weekends before arriving at No.1.
Below are the Top 5 box office performers this weekend:
1- Argo brings home $12 million ($60 million total in its first 3-weeks).
2- Hotel Transylvania scares in another $9.5 million ($130 million over its 5-week run in theaters).
3- Cloud Atlas* manages to navigate in $9.4 million during its debut weekend.
4- Paranormal Activity 4 earns another $8.7 million this weekend ($42 million for its 2-week total).
5- Take 2 takes in another $8 million ($117 million for its 4-week total).
