Even before Zero Dark Thirty won BIG at the Golden Globes, it was on pace to be the #1 grossing film of the weekend—the warm, fuzzy waterboarding flick earned $24 million. Its hot red head lead—Jessica Chastain—won Best Actress last night, which hopefully was in recognition of her amazing performance and not because those loony folks from the Hollywood Foreign Press think she really found Bin Laden.

In other weekend movie news, A Haunted House, the latest scary movie-esque spoof by Wayans’ world took second place over the much more expensive Gangster Squad, which came in third.

Golden Globes

Other big winners last night were Argo and Les Miserables, which won Best Drama and Best Comedy/Musical, respectively. Ben Affleck showed the Oscars what’s up by winning the Golden Globe for Best Director. Another upset was Hugh Jackman receiving Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical over the crazy yet still sexy Bradley Cooper, in Silver Linings Playbook. Jennifer Lawrence however did win Best Actress in the oddly combined Comedy/Musical category. Django Unchained took home a bit of gold—Quentin Tarantino won best Screenplay and the  über-talented and hilarious Christoph Waltz won Best Supporting Actor. Anne Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress for Les Miserables, which made her buzz cut totally worth it.

Below are the Top 5 box office performers this weekend:

1- Zero Dark Thirty brings home $24 million.

2- A Haunted House* debuted with $18 million.

3-  Gangster Squad* premiere with $16 million.
