Ryan Gosling reveals he was almost a Backstreet Boy!

Apparently, Ryan Gosling lost out on becoming a Backstreet Boy because he didn’t take A.J. McLean’s new band auditions serious.

AJ to Ryan: Hey bro, we’re starting one of those boy bands, like New Kids on the Block, only worse. It’s gonna be EPIC. Are you in?

Ryan to AJ: Ummm…gotta check my calendar…Oh sorry, I’m on the rag that day. No, I’m NOT in.

That’s actually not far from the truth. In a recent interview, Ryan revealed that he lived in the same building as Backstreet Boys member A.J. McLean, during the beginning stages of the group’s formation in the early ’90s.

“When I was doing the Mickey Mouse Club, we were living in the same place. He was saying how big they were going to be…he had a poster of them in his house…We were like, it’s never going to happen.”

Ryan figured NKOTB had already been there and done that, so he dismissed the effort, and any chance to be a part of the group.

“Cut to… I was wrong,” he said.

That’s true, he was wrong—Backstreet was HUGE—but he was soooo right to let it pass by. There was a much better plan for little Ryan. Can you imagine living in a world where Ryan Gosling wasn’t in the rainy make-out scene in The Notebook or shirtless in this hilarious scene from Crazy Stupid Love? It would have been a travesty!
