The ‘Slop Vs. Snob’ comedy AKA Identity Thief  features Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman. The plot is predictable yet hilarious—she swindles him out of his perfect identity and together they swindle the box office out of $36 million and the No. 1 weekend box office spot.

The McCarthy/Bateman slop/snob comedic pairing is being compared to Chris Farley/David Spade, which I think it WRONG and a great example of unfair TYPECASTING! How dare people compare…Jason to David. Now, Melissa to Chris would be GREAT comparison and it’s got nothing to do with body-typecasting. Melissa continues to make audiences laugh out loud, like only the best can do.

So here’s question—Is Melissa of the same comedic caliber as the late, great Chris Farley?

In other newcomer news, the effects of Steven Soderbergh’s new film Side Effects are mediocre box office earnings. Starring Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum and Jude Law (among others), the movie debuts at No. 3 with $10 million.

Below are the Top 5 box office performers this weekend:

1- Identity Thief* steals $36 million in its premiere weekend.

2- Warm Bodies earns another $11 million ($36 million total for 2-weeks).

3- Side Effects* include a $10 million debut.

4- Silver Linings Playbook banks another $6 million ($90 million total for 13-weeks).

5- Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters tracks down another $5 million ($43 million total for 3-weeks).
